Married in 2013, Brooks Brunson and Gregg Pitts always knew they wanted to have a family together, and were delighted when they were able to start the adoption process for their son shortly after beginning to look for a match in 2015. The child’s birth mother had no problem with a same-sex couple adopting the baby. “We’re an interracial same-sex couple family,” says Brunson, “But our day-to-day life is picking up dry cleaning, getting to work on time, making sure Thomas has his bottle prepared – we’re the most boring people I know. But then when I take a step back I realize we are very unique. But I believe this is exactly where God wants me to be.” The District of Columbia legalized gay marriage in 2010.
